Unique Money Making Ideas

Unique Ideas for Making Money from Home (That You Haven’t Tried Yet)

When it comes to making money from home, there’s a lot of repeating advice out there. If you’ve read up on a few ideas and none of them appeal to you, we’ve got some more that you might not have tried yet. I’ve put together a list of creative ways you can make money from home.

Sell Your Writing

Freelance writing is one of the most popular ways to make money online, but it goes way beyond blogging and copywriting. There are all kinds of niches and needs out there, and these are some opportunities you might not have seen yet:
  • Book reviews. There are quite a few companies that pay for book reviews online. Kirkus is the main one, but you can also look at Online Book Club, Any Subject Books, or Shvoong. Alternatively, you can start your own platform as a book reviewer. Publish your reviews regularly on a blog. You can then monetize the blog and/or use it as leverage to pitch publications (magazines and newspapers) to hire you as a book reviewer. This takes a bit of legwork, but it’s manageable. Plus, when you put in the time to get established, you can make great rates for your reviews.
  • Book descriptions. Have you ever bought a book on Amazon, read it, and then thought the book description was really lacking because the book was much better than it’d seemed? If so, you may have figured out what it takes to write a winning book description… the kind that makes you want to buy. Start offering book description services as a writer.
  • Product descriptions. Product descriptions are a type of copywriting that’s often underestimated. Next time you’re browsing your favorite online store or Etsy shop, take a look at the product descriptions. If you’ve ever thought “I bet I could write a better description than that,” then you’re right on the money. Price your product descriptions per description rather than charging an hourly rate to maximize your earnings.
  • Lesson plans, workouts, etc. Do you know a lot about something that can be packaged up? If so, you sell it. Sell lesson plans, workouts, recipes, crafts, or anything else! And if you want to get really proactive, you can sell yourself as a teacher/coach/trainer to go along with your items.

Sell Your Time with Online Services

We touched briefly on this in the last section, but there’s no limit to the services you can sell online. Freelance writing is a service, along with other common work-at-home gigs like being a virtual assistant or a web designer. But there are some less common ways to sell your services online, too. Here are a few ideas to get you started:
  • Voice over work. I’ve written about being a voice over artist before, and it’s one of my favorite “unusual” ways to make money from home.
  • Be a media buyer. Media buyers are people who buy ad space. If you have any experience with advertising services like Google Adwords or Facebook Ads — or if you’re willing to put in the time to research best practices — you can become a media buyer for online businesses and entrepreneurs and help them get their online ads set up.
  • Bed Rest Concierge. These special mom helpers may handle everything from shower registries and birth announcements to diaper delivery and laundry service. Obviously, some services can only be done on a local level and possibly in-person, but you may be able to create an online version that suits your skills and passions.
  • Letters from Santa. Christmas is coming soon. Now is the time to start prepping for a Secret Santa gig. Not the one in the mall. The one behind the scenes responding to those letters to Santa. Offer the service in your local Facebook Buy/Sell Groups. Craft a letter, send it to the North Pole to be postmarked, collect your bounty.

Sell or Rent Your Stuff

Everyone knows about selling your unwanted books and clothes, but you may have more at your disposal than you realized. Whether you want to sell or rent, these are some good opportunities for you:
  • Sell old ads. If you’ve got a pile of old magazines or newspapers lying around — or if you have a Great Aunt Matilda with a pile — see about cutting out the ads and selling them. Collectors and nostalgia junkies happily pay good money for old ads on sites like eBay. You can also pick up old magazines at yard sales, thrift shops, and online — look for ones with some damage to pay less for them but still have the ads you want.
  • Rent your shed. Consider putting up a shed in your backyard — or clearing out the one you currently have — and renting it out. With self-storage being an enormous industry these days, there’s sure to be somebody in your area who would rent your shed. You can try renting it out on Craigslist. Just be sure to have a contract in place, agreeing that you aren’t liable for theft or damage.
  • Rent your stuffFrom costumes to home and anything in between, you may be able to rent out things you own for cash. Keep in mind that you’ll need to take pictures of the item(s) you’re renting, and have a contract in place to protect you especially if you’re renting out things like machinery (lawn mowers, etc.) or sporting equipment — things that people might be injured while using. It’s a good idea to speak with a lawyer to get that contract set up, but it shouldn’t be too difficult or expensive.
The key to making money from home is to use what you already have (or can easily get) in new, profitable ways. With a bit of creativity and an eagle eye, you’ll be able to spot all kinds of creative opportunities to make money from home.

6 Figures

source: http://theworkathomewife.com

It’s the dream of many to work from home earning six figures per year. Despite what you may be thinking, it’s really not that unusual. There are many women doing just that and without a fancy degree.

Blogger

There are so many bloggers, ladies just like you, earning six figures blogging. There is no fancy degree in blogging. We are all self-taught. One of my favorite things about blogging is there is no income ceiling here. You don’t necessarily need to work more hours to make more money. You just need to work smarter and get the proper education and tools.
Suggested Resources
  • Framework from Just a Girl and Her Blog – If you are just getting started in blogging, this is an excellent resource. It walks you through everything from setting up a WordPress blog to creating content. It’s also affordable.
  • Elite Blogger Academy – This course is for those with established blogs. It’s the crème de la crème when it comes to blogging courses. I took this one in October and have been reaping the rewards ever since. I’ve been able to GREATLY increase my blogs’ traffic and income in a very short period of time. I’ve also made connections with some really great bloggers to help continue that success long into the future. Learn The 7 Ways to Boost Your Income Over Night free.
  • Need hosting? Hostgator is a user-friendly, affordable option for beginners that I used for years. Get started for just a penny with code 1CENT. Want a managed, WordPress-specific host? All of my sites are now proudly hosted by Flywheel.
Will blogging last forever? I don’t know. But you can be d*mn sure it won’t be one of those things I look back on in 10 years and think man, I should have gotten in on that.

Consultant

If you have a background in business management you will be happy to know there are a lot of women earning a great income from home as consultants. Help your clients with things like funding, finances or finding a job. You aren’t performing the actual work. You are simply coming up with the strategy and direction a business needs to take to be successful. Networking and organization are the keys to success. Here are a few consulting arenas that are thriving:
  • Advertising
  • Business
  • Career Counseling
  • Insurance
  • Publishing
  • Writing

Social Media Manager

Social marketing is big business these days. Everyone from big corporations to small bloggers are using social platforms to boost their business and brands. Social media managers are profiting from the need in a big way doing everything from content scheduling to customer service to social media audits.
Andrea Vahl has an awesome Social Media Manager School that can help you learn the ropes of the industry. If you don’t want to wait until the next session opens in April, check out Alexis Grant’s ebook.

Direct Sales

Network marketing has been experiencing a steady increase the past two years. This is especially true for the wellness and services industries. In 2013, 16.8% of American households included at least one person in the direct sales industry.
While the median income for direct sellers per a recent survey was $6,200 per year, 15% – that’s 2.4 million U.S. consultants – made $50,000 or more in 2013. Of those, there are thousands upon thousands earning $100,000 or more. What has given direct sales a bad name is that many are lead to believe this is easy money, people will be banging down your door. Wrong.
The number of hours you put into your direct sales business directly relates to your income. 70% of direct sellers spend less than 15 hours per week on their business! Imagine the potential if you put in 30 or 40. Take a look at the 2013 Earnings Disclosure from Young Living. Pay special attention to the increase in income from those that work 5 or less hours per week to even those that put in just 17 hours per week.
Young Living Earnings
And keep in mind, 70% of direct sellers report the majority of their sales come from one-on-one contacts, not parties. Don’t let the public speaking thing deter you.
The direct sales game is changing with online technology. They are finally catching up. Now is a very exciting time to get started in direct sales.

Virtual Assistant

There are also a lot of ladies out there earning some big bucks as virtual assistants. What you need to know here is that most are not doing it alone. The big earners are often running multi-VA firms. You need to start somewhere however!

Bonus Six-Figure Opportunity: Reseller

Jessica over at The Selling Family is one of my favorite success stories. Her and her husband were able to create a six-figure income in their first year as Amazon FBA Sellers. And they work less than 20 hours per week!Grab this free report to learn more about Amazon FBA.
Here’s the bottom line for all of the above opportunities: You’ve got to put in the work. There is no easy money. There is no get rich quick scheme to answer all of your prayers. You will get out what you put in.m/six-figure-work-at-home-jobs/

Virtual Assistant Jobs For Beginners

5 WORK AT HOME VIRTUAL ASSISTING JOBS FOR BEGINNERS

5 work at home virtual assistant jobs for beginnersIf you are someone who would like to become a virtual assistant but you’re not quite ready to dive in and start your own business, today’s post is for you. Ultimately, starting your own VA business gives you greater earning potential because you will be setting your own rates.
However, there’s still a lot to be said for “getting your feet wet” in this industry by working under someone else for a while. This can help you not only understand how a VA business is run, but also help you to learn to do some of the more popular tasks VA’s are often used for.
So today, I thought it would be a good idea to create a little list for you of 5 different companies that regularly hire work at home virtual assistants with basically no past experience in the industry.
Note that this does not mean you won’t need past experience in something. Many of the listings will say they prefer candidates with experience in Microsoft Word, Excel, Google’s tools, freelance writing, etc. But, you can still be considered for work even if you’ve never actually done VA work before for any other company.
Not at all familiar with what virtual assisting is? Then you may want to read this post first.

5 VIRTUAL ASSISTING COMPANIES FOR NEWBIES

#1 – FANCY HANDS

This is task-based VA work. Once you have gotten accepted, you can log in at any time and browse the Fancy Hand’s platform for VA tasks you may want to do. You’ll see all kinds of things from appointment setting to research. Just pick and choose what you want to do, but be quick because other Fancy Hands VA’s are also scouring for work. You can go here to read our review of Fancy Hands for more details.

#2 – 99 DOLLAR SOCIAL

I’m not sure how often this company hires, but their job description page does not appear to require that you’ve had any past virtual assisting experience. They do prefer to hire people who are comfortable navigating and updating social media since what you will be doing is updating and managing social media accounts for their clients.

#3 – TIME ETC.

This company hires VA’s with at least 2-3 years of relevant experience in general administration tasks, marketing & social media, writing, or customer service. So while they do prefer you have experience in one of the above fields, you don’t have to have past experience working as a VA to be considered here.

#4 – VICKY VIRTUAL

This company is regularly looking for work at home VA’s/receptionists to handle different tasks for their clients. Note that this is primarily phone work. They do not require that you have ever done this type of work before provided you embody certain core characteristics including being able to multi-task, easily learn new things, be comfortable navigating a computer, etc.

#5 – WORLDWIDE101

This is one of the more well-known companies that VA’s work for. They are willing to consider most applicants. You just need to be a fast learner, good at multi-tasking, familiar and/or comfortable with various internet-based cloud technologies and software.
